case study
a four-story craftsman apartment building in culver city, transformed from anonymous and overlooked into a destination property with a boutique-hotel feel. post-renovation, the building consistently won rents 15–22% above pre-renovation figures.
about the studio
bespoke design is an interior design studio in los angeles, led by darra bishop. clients work directly with darra from first conversation through final install.
over 15 years, the studio has focused on unconventional spaces - downtown lofts, historic properties, mid-century residences, industrial conversions, and the boutique commercial projects that don't fit a template. spanish revivals, art deco, california bungalows, and windsor square historic homes are all part of the portfolio.
each project begins with a quiet study of the space, the people who will live or work in it, and the way light moves through a room over the course of a day. nothing is decorative for its own sake. every surface, every fixture, every line is chosen with intention.
the work is bespoke in the literal sense - built around the specific person, the specific space, the specific moment. one downtown loft project included a custom listening nook for the owner's vinyl collection: built-in shelving sized to the LP format, wired discreetly for hi-fi, set adjacent to a vitsoe wall system carrying decades of records and equipment. the nook didn't exist in any brief. it emerged from paying attention.
bespoke design works closely with a small network of artisans, fabricators, and craftspeople, many of whom have collaborated with the studio for years.
